Finding late season pow on Mt St Helens (Loowit)

It's only March, but Alex, Ian and myself are already volcano hungry, and what better way to kick off volcano season than with a late storm and 6" - 1' of powder for a few thousand feet?

I meet Alex and Ian at the trailhead late at night, quickly toss out the mat in the bed of the trunk and pass out. Waking up at 4:00 am is never easy, but knowing a powder day is coming makes it a little less of a chore. Making coffee and catching up with each other turns our early morning into a later 6:00 am start, but our morale was high and we were eager to get going.

Morale was high indeed..

A quick reminder, never relieve yourself on the skin track - and while you're at it, get your business done with a view.

Exhibit A

The skin is easy going, the views incredible, and the vibes immaculate.

Moody sunrises

windblown skin tracks...

Epic volcanic views

We end up turning around just about 6000 ft, wanted to get the goods before the sun made it too sloppy. We rip down enjoying 3000 feet of powder turns in nature's halfpipes - the worm flows.

Mini natural terrain parks!
